How to Play Mancala Classic

The objective in Mancala Classic is to have more seeds in your Mancala (the large pit at your right end) than your opponent when all seeds have been captured or played.

• Game Setup:
  • The game is played on a board with two rows of six small pits (called "houses") each. Each player controls the six houses on their side of the board.
  • At each end of the board is a larger pit, called a Mancala or store. Your Mancala is on your right.
  • Typically, each of the 12 houses starts with four seeds.
• Controls:
  • Mouse Click: Click on one of your houses (pits on your side of the board) to pick up its seeds and start sowing.
• Gameplay:
  • Players take turns moving the seeds.
  • Sowing Seeds: On your turn, choose one of the six houses on your side that contains seeds. Pick up all the seeds from that house. Moving counter-clockwise, deposit one seed in each house and in your own Mancala. You do NOT deposit seeds into your opponent's Mancala.
  • Extra Turn: If the last seed you sow lands in your own Mancala, you get to take another turn immediately.
  • Capturing Seeds: If the last seed you sow lands in an empty house on YOUR side of the board, AND the house directly opposite it on your opponent's side contains seeds, you capture all the seeds from the opponent's opposite house PLUS your last sown seed. All captured seeds are placed into your Mancala.
  • Game End: The game ends when one player no longer has any seeds in any of their six houses. When this happens, the other player takes all the remaining seeds from their houses and places them into their own Mancala.
  • Winning: The player with the most seeds in their Mancala at the end of the game wins.

• Set Up Captures: Create empty houses on your side, hoping your opponent will fill the opposite house, allowing you to capture on a subsequent turn. Or, make a move that lands your last seed in an empty house on your side to capture seeds from across the board.
• Count Seeds: Keeping a rough count of seeds in key houses can help you anticipate moves and potential captures.
• Don't Neglect Defense: Be aware of your opponent's potential capture moves and try to avoid leaving your valuable houses vulnerable.
• Early Game vs. Late Game: Your strategy might change. Early on, focus on building up seeds in your Mancala. Later, focus on emptying your side to end the game if you're ahead, or making crucial captures.
